April 21, 1998 Nashville,
Tenn. Multiple award-winning groups dc Talk
and Gods Property have joined
forces in an effort to promote racial unity, hitting
the road this summer for the 1998 E.R.A.C.E. Tour.
Featuring additional performances by Out of Eden,
The Katinas, Grits and comedian John
Gray, the tour will make a total of 13 stops at
major festivals from June through August.
The E.R.A.C.E. Tour is the
national kickoff for The E.R.A.C.E. Foundation, a
non-profit organization formed by dc Talk members
Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait and Kevin
Max, along with dc Talk manager Dan Pitts
and Gotee Records President Joey Elwood. The
foundation was formed in 1997 with the intent of promoting
racial reconciliation, targeting primarily a youth-oriented
audience.
The 1998 E.R.A.C.E. Tour marks
the first time in two years that dc Talk will appear
before the summer festival crowds, and it is the very
first foray into the festival market for Gods
Property. The two groups came together through multiple
discussions between dc Talk members and gospel music
trendsetter Kirk Franklin, who produced Gods
Property and brought the group to national attention.
Proceeds from The E.R.A.C.E.
Tour will go toward the purchase of a building that
will house a school for gang members in Long Beach,
California. The facility will also serve as a daycare
and job placement center, and will provide a permanent
location for Bible studies and church services.
